Boundaries are lifted as requisite to identity. National identities require walls; personal identities require “essential” definitions. But we live in a world where technology – travel and the internet – makes walls obsolete. All borders are permeable; no identity is ever isolated or independent. I studied Western Fine Art in Korea and East Asian landscape in Louisville. My artwork, through its mode of abstract expressionism and through the blending of traditional concepts from Korean and America, blend these cultural identities to show that not just that they can co-exist, but they already exist in each other. Pure identification is an ahistorical project.
