Abstract Nature

“There’s something of that mysteriousness that one gets
by looking at nature as if through the eyelashes,
so that the forms simplify themselves into patches of color.”

Through abstract expressionism, I restore nature back to their primordial state. What we consider reality is a human construct. Human constructs often turn things we see – like flowers and landscapes -- into objects of commodification. I disrupt this habit by breaking down what we see to its fundamental visual elements: colors, shapes, and textures; to sow doubts of our immediate perception; to affect a critical curiosity for the history of images. Art is a practice of paying attention. Abstract expressionism is a discipline of attention to disrupt socialization. My works challenge viewers towards a more humble, appreciative and emotive way of paying loving attention to the world.
