Places in my S(e)oul

2024

This is a lyrical series -- over forty pieces -- that express the emotions, memories, and recollections of my life growing up in Seoul, South Korea. It draws upon traditional Korean calligraphy techniques, especially the use of ink (먹 Meok). Through a hybrid approach combining monoprint methods and drawing, I rendered the feelings of my-selves onto a surface of expression.

The work captures a duality: the dramatic tension of ink’s precarious expressiveness, and the quiet, weighty diffusion of meok. The landscape-like imageries do not represent a reality, but evoke imagined worlds shaped by memory, landscapes that persist through the emotional and temporal flow of human recollection.
